I decided to participate in Explore in order to broaden and improve my knowledge of English. I love to travel and, in fact, I do travel a lot. Improving my vocabulary and grammar is really important to me. Explore is excellent and the program is far better than I’d expected. The people at Humber College are great, and the participants are really friendly. A friend of mine was in the program before and she told me, “You’ll see, it’s amazing,”and I can confirm that it really is fantastic.
At the beginning, participants are on their own, but groups form after a few days ― although it’s still really easy to join another group, which is great. After three weeks in the program, I’m still meeting new people ranging from 19 to 40 years old ― but I really don’t feel the age difference. My roommate is from Taiwan and she wrote my first name in her language ― but since I don’t know her language at all, I could only compliment her on her brushwork!
What’s good about the program is that you can correct your mistakes and improve your second language. On a personal level, I’m discovering new aspects of my personality. The activities at Humber are really varied; we’ve been up the CN Tower, down to Niagara Falls, and through a few museums. The special exhibits are out of this world. And of course, I’ve indulged in my favourite activity: girls-only window-shopping around Toronto in search of fashion items I can’t find in Quebec.
After I complete the program, I’m seriously considering finding work in a more English-speaking environment. I recommend Explore to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience. I was lucky enough to get a bursary so I’m going to take full advantage of it. Explore ― it’s priceless!
