British Columbia to Quebec
Just over a decade has passed since I attended the Summer Language Bursary Program, and the memories linger today - from talent night (which included everyone from Newfoundland in doing a skit with cod!), to weekend trips around the city, to Roy Rogers night, just to name a few. I had the best time of my life, and I honed my oral communication skills (in French) along the way. Just out of high school, I connected with young people from all over Canada, as well as some from overseas! Today, I continue to connect with three friends from my cohort, and we are: two lawyers, a policy analyst and a translator. Being among so many motivated individuals really served as an impetus for me to put my best foot forward, and to work to overcome barriers that stand in the way to success. Not only did I practice my French and make friends - I got to live in a fantastic language laboratory called Montreal. My advice to those considering the program - go ahead and take advantage of the opportunites before you - you will have the time of your life!
